Death and Evolution

An odd thought came into my head the other day concerning the passage of the consciousness into the oblivion of death.

Science has proven that the process of dying entails several chemical processes that occur throughout the body.  The very common description by those who have ’died’ and come back to life of seeing lights or your life passing in front of you, all can be tied into this chemical process.  Further, the observation of those who simply are passing into death naturally often know when this is occuring and in their last moments appear to just go to sleep in peace.

I believe that this process of dying has evolved.  I have no proof of this but it makes some sense.  If a person is going to die naturally, why wouldn’t the body attempt to make the ending as peaceful and tranquil as possible?  Doesn’t fear play a part in evolving other species?  If we fear death, as most people do, then this evolution should follow.  If evolution has changed the way we’re born and live, why not how we die as well?

Ok, really, I’m not obsessed with death or anything.  This was just a thought that popped into my head out of the blue.  I’m pretty happy with living, thank-you-very-much.
